Puberty can be a hard time for anyone, specifically as the when  sexually organs begin to develop and mature.

As the journey into adulthood begins, sex hormones such as testosterone and estrogen are released all over the body causing changes in both males and females

Some of which include:

  • Physical changes, such as rapid growth spurts, the development of breasts in girls and an increased penis size in boys
  • Psychological changes, such as mood swings, increased self-consciousness and aggression
  • Behavioural changes, such as experimenting with new and potentially risky activities, such as smoking, drinking, alcohol and sex

For more on puberty log on to BBC Science, where you can navigate around the human body to identify and understand the different changes that take place.
