Decolonising Contraception presents the Sex Festival for people of colour.
Our friends over at Decolonising Contraception are in the process of preparing for Sex Fest – The Sex Festival for People of Colour to engage in advice and information in a way that meets their needs.
The festival aims to provide a place for people of colour to learn about sexual pleasure, genital anatomy, contraception, STIs, psychosexual health, the art of masturbation and lots more all in one place.
As we know, this is vitally important because currently in the UK, people of colour experience huge health disparities within sexual and reproductive health such as:
– Asian women being twice as likely to die in pregnancy than their white counterparts
– Black women being five times as likely to die in pregnancy than their white counterparts
– people of colour being at increased risk of STIs and HIV & then being more likely to receive a late diagnosis.
– queer people of colour face additional barriers like stigma & discrimination when accessing sexual & reproductive health services
We support DC with their work and are looking forward to the festival!
